I have been creating portraits of children, families and pets for the past fourteen years. I have met many wonderful families through my photography business and have watched their children grow and change through the years as they came back for updated images. |
My photography and subject matter have changed too. I have become extremely passionate about animal photography. Fur, feathers, fins and even insects, anything with a heartbeat, I photograph. I enjoy creating art images from macro, abstracts, stills and nature shots. I am constantly exploring different papers and printing methods. Photoshop is my friend, and enemy, depending on what I am trying to achieve. But even with the new technology, I still add color to my images with pencils and paints.
My animal photography has gotten a sense of humor. In my most recent project, I feature JJ, an adorable Norwich terrier, in a variety of humorous human settings. I encourage laughing at my art when viewing these images. Of course no animals were hurt during the photo shoot, unless you count weight gain from the treat compensation plan.
In contrast, I photograph animals waiting to be adopted at the Greater Metro Humane Society. These are some of the hardest photographs I have ever taken. These images show confusion and hopelessness as animals wait for someone to give them a permanent home. To help, I donate 10% of my profits from the Gallery sales to the Greater Metro Humane Society.
I shoot a limited number of new commissioned pet photography clients each year. I’m especially drawn to photo opportunities where I can catch the interaction between several animals. Sometimes I will even photograph their human counterparts.
When I don’t have a camera in my hands I enjoy family time with my husband, son, and dogs in Medina.
