"Nothing is permanent in this world. Processes are hard to part with once they are learned. They stay like a shadow. From my child hood I have learned different lessons by pursuing art. Art had taught me to communicate, not to be afraid, given me respect for others, and a positive attitude. It gives me pleasure and satisfaction to pass my knowledge to the next generation, so I started to get involved with kids. As a visual folk artist and a photographer I like to use my knowledge to work with kids to help them to understand themselves and the world around them with a positive attitude. Art is my teacher, companion and my life.
Life is a beautiful gift no matter which culture it came from. Celebrate what we have in our community and enjoy each other by finding good things in others." |
For me, art is a continuous circle that is constantly changing and taking different shapes. Changes are influenced by my emotions, surroundings, and experiences of life. It is hard to separate art from my life. During my childhood I spent time with my grandmother, mother, and relatives learning how to decorate the floor of our house with chalk powder or rice flour, decorate our hands and feet with henna, and our clothes with embroidery. In school and college I paid more attention to drawing and coloring than to my textbooks. After college I started to learn more oil painting and different craftworks.
After I moved to Minnesota I wanted to learn more about art. I went to a community college and completed a graphic design program. There I expanded my knowledge from oil painting to different mediums. As a teenager I always loved photography and used my father's camera to capture the nature around me. I still do photography and love to spend time in the darkroom.
Fluid motion of water, rugged and smooth surface of stones, clouds taking different shapes in the sky, trees trying to go up and up to reach the god who is the greatest creator, shadows playing with the sunshine, beautiful flowers, innocent smiles of children, curves of female figures, and strength of men inspire to make art.
As an artist my experience grows as I continue my journey in the art world. At the same time I am getting in touch with my own ethnic folk art background. I do demonstrations of traditional henna and rangoli art at cultural celebrations at different schools, libraries and fairs.
